Vital Flange Weld Test Tool - Installation & Testing Procedure

Preparation

1 – Prepare the Pipe & Flange Weld Area
• Ensure the piping edges are smooth using a metal file or wire brush where necessary.

• Clean the interior of the piping system and flange area to remove any debris or contaminants.

2 – Tool Preparation
• Disassemble the Vital Flange Weld Test Tool and ensure all components are ready for installation.

• Adjust the length of the testing area by moving the spacers as required.

Installation

3 – Insert the Test Tool
• Place the Flange Weld Test Tool inside the pipe.

• The tool will self-center, ensuring an even and secure fit.

4 – Positioning for Testing
• Make sure the tool is positioned to isolate only the flange weld, not the entire pipeline.

The tool should be as far back as possible to avoid interference with hot work operations like welding, grinding, or cutting.

5 – Verify Accessibility
Ensure all adjustment components remain accessible for modifications or removal after the test is complete.

Testing Process

6 – Secure the Tool
• Tighten the tool appropriately to create a sealed testing chamber around the flange weld.

• Verify that the tool is firmly in place.

7 – Introduce Testing Medium
• Connect the fill hose to the lower fitting and introduce water or other testing medium.

• Allow the test medium to fill the chamber until it reaches the upper fitting.

8 – Pressure Testing
• Attach a pressure gauge (recommended 300 psi) to monitor the system.

• Pressurize the chamber to the specified pressure range for the required test.

• Maintain a static pressure between the test boundaries.

9 – Inspect for Leaks
• Visually inspect the flange weld and tool assembly for any leaks.

• If leaks are detected, release pressure, adjust the tool, and repeat the process.

10 – Confirm Test Success

• If no leaks are detected and the pressure remains stable, the flange weld is verified as secure.

Completion & Removal

11 – Vent the System
• Connect vent adapters and vent hoses, ensuring the discharge is directed to a safe area.

12 – Release Pressure & Remove Test Medium
• Once the customer or inspector confirms test completion, gradually release the pressure.

• Drain and recover the test medium for disposal or reuse.

13 – Disassemble the Tool
• Disconnect all hose assemblies and pressure gauges.

• Loosen the compression fittings and remove the Vital Flange Weld Test Tool from the pipe.

14 – Final Inspection
• Perform a gas test if necessary to ensure safety before resuming pipeline operations.

15 – Store the Tool
• Clean and store the Vital Flange Weld Test Tool properly for future use.
